(prompt: ‘plan’ 24/04/2020- for 100 word ‘Drabble’ challenge this time)
Same plan every year. Alarm awakening at 5; dress (warmly) while gulping down first coffee; into cold car; quick trip into our town’s war memorial; shimmy into any gap in crowds; listen, pray, observe humblest thanks and reverence for those brave lives given for our freedom. And tears happen… again. Same as every year on our Anzac Day commemoration.
Except! This year’s war is ‘COVID-19’ and we couldn’t gather together. But this enemy couldn’t stop us standing in our gateways with candles, torches, hurricane lamps to light up our world before dawn, repeating the eternal words –
LEST WE FORGET.
Author’s Note: Here’s the new kid on the block this week, a 100 word ‘Drabble’...discovered AFTER ‘publishing’ my 500-worder.
Happens I love these. Happens I had a small tribute for these heroes tucked away in my grey matter, waiting to shine (and I also couldn’t resist using the beloved pic I used as my cover picture on Facebook -AGAIN!)
And if this is not 100 words here on WP… tough luck. It is exactly 100 words at my place.
