In our small country town, a few writers in different stages of development have recently formed a writer’s group to exchange ideas and information and receive feedback and grow our skills.
We have spent the first couple of meetings getting to know each other and feel more comfortable with sharing questions and excerpts of our work.
One of our members is the manager of our local community radio station and while she would like to write more someday, her main aim at this stage is to give the rest of us us a leg-up on the lofty writer’s ladder by giving us the opportunity on live radio to either read pieces of our writing ourselves, or she will read them for the more shy members, to build confidence and help us achieve some recognition. A broadcast with the friendliest chat time before and after a 5-10 minute reading is a welcome outlet, whilst being a wondrous ‘prodder’ to produce more work.
Even a warby old voice like mine has its own charm I guess. I console myself with the thought that nobody knows better where I want particular emphasis on my words to engage the feelings – I most certainly know where I want the emphasis to be as my stories unfold. I’m relaxing with the odd little hiccup too – just shows listeners we all share the same human foibles.
At the moment we’re having some difficulties with getting copies out (so I still haven’t heard my own self yet. Hmm… could be a blessing!!)
So, in the meantime, and for anyone who’s interested, I’ve begun a collection of the transcripts on Wattpad as they happen. I’ve called it ‘The Vocal Local’. Love the cute cover for this one. Will it be the lasting one? Doubt it, but it’s fun for now.
If you’re interested in reading the transcripts, click on this cover pic.
There are some plans afoot for more recordings of my stories – but still on the drawing board for now. They will be added as they happen.
